Who Can Apply?

If you live between

  • Skipton and Carlisle (on the Leeds-Settle-Appleby-Carlisle line)
  • Skipton and Carnforth (on the Leeds-Morecambe line)
  • Carlisle and Brampton (on the Tyne Valley Carlisle-Newcastle line)

and your postcode is in one of the following areas:

  • CA 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17
  • DL 8, 11, 12
  • LA 2, 5, 6, 10
  • BD 23, 24

you can apply for a Dales Railcard.

Where Can I Use It?

You can use a Dales Railcard to save money on single, return and saver return tickets between the valid stations:

From:

  • Brampton and Wetheral to Carlisle and;
  • Settle and all stations to Carlisle
  • Gargrave
  • Hellifield
  • Long Preston
  • Giggleswick
  • Clapham
  • Bentham
  • Wennington

To:

All stations on the Leeds-Settle-Appleby-Carlisle and on the Leeds-Morecambe lines (including Bradford Forster Square and Frizinghall) and to Wetheral and Brampton (on the Tyne Valley line).

And from:

  • Leeds*
  • Bradford Forster Square*
  • Frizinghall*
  • Shipley*
  • Saltaire*
  • Bingley*
  • Crossflats*
  • Keighley*
  • Steeton and Silsden*
  • Cononley*
  • Skipton*

To:

All stations between Gargrave and Carlisle and Wetheral/Brampton and all stations between Gargrave and Morecambe.

It is not valid for journeys starting from any station marked with a * to any other station marked with a *.Journeys wholly within the Leeds/Bradford Forster Square-Skipton area are not permitted.

And from:

  • Carnforth **
  • Lancaster**
  • Bare Lane**
  • Morecambe**

To:

All stations between Wennington and Leeds
All stations between Settle and Carlisle and Brampton (via Settle)

It is not valid for journeys starting from any station marked with ** to any other station marked with **.

How Much Does It Cost?

The Dales Railcard costs £10.00 per person.

How Much Can I Save?

You save 1/3rd on the cost of single, day return and saver tickets between valid stations.

What about Children?

Up to four children (ages 5 to 15 inclusive) can travel with a railcard holder and the child fare is based on an 81% discount on the adult fare.There is a minimum child fare of £1.

Are There Any Other Benefits?

Occasionally, special offers are made available to Dales Railcard Holders.These may be a special ticket price for a limited period or other discount offers.

How Do I Apply for the First Time or Renew an Existing Card?

  • Complete an application form
  • and take it to Appleby, Settle, Skipton, Carlisle or Carnforth Railway Stations
  • with proof of your address and identity (eg driving licence, utilities bill) - send a photocopy with postal applications

  • or apply by post to:

If applying by post, please allow seven to ten days for the Dales Railcard to be received by you and remember to enclose payment of £10 for each applicant.

How Long Is the Railcard Valid?

Dales Railcards are valid for twelve months from the date of issue or commencement date.

You can apply up to one month in advance for a renewal Dales Railcard.

Alternatively, you can get an application form from Appleby, Settle, Skipton, Carnforth or Carlisle Railway Stations.

Note:Northern Rail Ltd does not undertake to replace lost of stolen Dales Railcards or issue refunds on unused cards.

Friends of the Settle Carlisle Line Gold Card

Members of the Friends of the Settle-Carlisle Line, who live outside the eligible post code areas for the Dales Railcard, are able to purchase a "gold" card.The "gold" card offers holders the same entitlements as the Dales Railcard.
