Are there ten or more of you wanting to travel on the Carlisle-Settle-Leeds railway? There are lots of reasons why a group may wish to travel on the line - to enjoy the scenery, for a days shopping in Leeds or Carlisle, an overnight stay in Leeds to go to the clubs or a day in Skipton to visit the castle or to take a trip on the canal. Suggested days out on the line and sources of further information are included on theDays Out page.

Discounts are available for groups travelling on the line on many of the trains.Children less than five years old travel free and child fare are half of the adult fare.Discounts apply to single, day return and saver return tickets and the rates depend upon the date of travel and anticipated train occupancy.

School parties can benefit from year round educational group rates.

To take advantage of the discounts, contact the Group Travel Office to make the advance booking. You can complete the online booking form, or print a copy and send it by post or fax. If you would like to discuss your group travel options, telephone 0800 9800 766 during office hours. An answer phone is available if you wish to leave a message outside office hours and one of the team will call you back.

It is not possible to provide a comprehensive list of the group travel fares between every station.Click on this link below to see the discount table and example fares for some of the more popular journeys.

The prices are correct at January 2008 but may be subject to change during the year.

On-Train Guides

It is the Friends' aim to provide an On-Train Guide to organised coach party groups and on other trains most often used by tourists. Our On-Train Guides are there to answer questions and to describe the sights as your journey unfolds. At the destination we will point you in the right direction too.

If travelling from Settle, your coach typically arrives some time before the allocated train to give people chance to look round Settle, but also the station - especially our popular and superbly restored signal box. We have souvenir shops at Settle and Appleby stations.

Our On-Train Guides have souvenir line-guide maps of the line for sale at £1 and will hand out Carlisle visitor leaflets towards the end if travelling north. All the proceeds from the sale of line-guide maps go towards the funding of enhanced facilities along the line.

Presently, we have over 25 On-Train Guides. All are volunteers and the service is provided free of charge. We operate throughout the year.

Many groups do not travel the entire line, preferring to start or finish from one of the intermediate stations. We frequently provide Guides for these groups too. Although we aim to provide a Guide to all booked groups, we cannot always do so.

Please email us at info@settle-carlisle.co.uk for more details or to request a guide for your group - though please make party ticket bookings via our Group Travel service.
