This website was launched to promote the scenic Settle-Carlisle railway.

Running through some of the most attractive scenery in the Yorkshire Dales and Cumbrian Fells, the Settle-Carlisle railway is equally famous for its Victorian architecture - huge stone viaducts, long tunnels, and remote wayside station buildings.

The site was developed by Paul Kampen and John Peter Buckley, both from the Committee of The Friends of the Settle-Carlisle Line, with assistance from Marion Armstrong at the Settle-Carlisle Railway Development Company. It also represents the Settle & Carlisle Railway Trust.

The three organisations together form the Settle-Carlisle Partnership. Yorkshire Dales based Internet Service Provider Daelnet provided technical support, website creation and hosting.

FoSCL Vice-President Pete Shaw said, "We hope that the website will encourage on-line virtual visitors to convert to real on-the-line visitors, who come to explore the Settle-Carlisle railway for themselves."
